work in progress I did go for that blue didn’t I?! Hasn’t happened for a while… A small visit to my sketchbook. Getting my hands dirty, or the benefits of “painting” with my own fingers. When elements and materials get combined: colours merge, inks dry, pigment and pastel dust settle, pencil lines dig in… and then you see things emerging and what to do next. I’ve ripped a book apart, there was something quite alluring… its title and chapters headings: ‘of the wind’, ‘of the sky’, ‘of distance’, amongst others. Works on canvas slowly emerging… for now is about dusty glazes and cautious marks. Dust clumping in, glazes to make it seep in. A brush stroke to mark but yet to define… a palette slowly emerging. Solace: the gentle tiptap of water stroking a river bank.
